Absorbatox® For Skin Rejuvenation – The Detox and Anti-aging Hero
Various nanoporous materials, of inorganic molecules, have recently become and interesting addition to many chemical, pharmaceutical and cosmetic products. These microporous molecules are known as zeolites. Zeolites are natural or synthetic crystalline aluminosilicates – with a 3D structure. The pore network – window structure – allow for the absorption of gasses, metals and other molecules while facilitating ion exchange. Zeolites are classified as cation exchangers. Attributed to their unique structure – zeolites exhibit a large variety of interesting biological activities – acting as ‘molecular sieves’. Zeolites poses excellent absorption, radiation protection, decontamination, detoxification properties in the human body. Zeolites are able to introduce, by ion exchange, minerals essential for life. The biological scavenger activity of zeolite opens a wide spectrum of applications in cosmetics and dermatology.
Research has demonstrated that zeolites are able to trap toxins within the unique crystalline channels. Zeolites have been evaluated for their antacid antidiarrheal, hypocholesterolaemic, antidiabetic, antimicrobial, and in anticancer properties. The external use of zeolite powder has been shown to be effective in the treatment of skin ulcers, reducing the healing time of wounds and surgical incisions and has some benefits in the treatment of psoriasis. In a study where patients were treated with a zeolite – both orally and topically on the skin – patients are healed faster and in a greater number than those treated with classic therapies. The accumulation of heavy metals in tissues – chemicals extremely dangerous to cells – are responsible for the onset on various different conditions which includes skin aging. Human skin is one of the major areas of toxic substance accumulation – these toxins are typically released by jewellery, air pollutants, water pollutants, make-up and UV radiation. Zeolites have proven to neutralise free radicals, screen UV rays and in the adsorption of toxins and heavy metals allow for an enhanced and rejuvenated complexion.
Absorbatox® is a synthetically enhanced zeolite. This is done by a patented process allowing significant enhancement of properties such as antioxidant, cation and even anion scavenging. The process allows for designer products for indication. Absorbatox® is an enhanced product, with a particle size between 30 – 400 µm, its unique properties making it like no other crystal hydrated aluminosilicate, which belongs to the clinoptilolite family. Absorbatox® is proven to have epithelial protective properties in patients with endoscopically negative gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (ENGORD) as well as patients taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). The protective effect confirmed in studies is a result of binding to biologically active amines and nitrates. Absorbatox® is able to create an optimal wound healing environment through its unique ability to bind with harmful biologically active substances which may be present in the wound exudate. Absorbatox® generates capillary suction forces through its porous crystal structure, this makes topical wound dressing a possibility along with excellent exudate management. The successful use of Absorbatox® in a skin-mask to treat environmentally exposed skin, i.e. chlorine and sun exposure is attributed to its anti-oxidative and free-radical scavenging properties (data on file dermaV pharmaceuticals (Pty) Ltd). The addition of Absorbatox® in a topical skin formulation aids in managing and preventing acute skin damage and enhance re-epithelialisation with evidently reduced scarring when used in wound healing applications.
